Day 8 - 30/30 Challenge - Rowboat

Rowboat, Sunken Meadow, watercolor and ink marker, 5x8" NFS

Today I went down to the beach to read my book and do a painting for today, and realized that I forgot my sketchbook and paints. Later, I finished up a sketch that I started last week at Sunken Meadow State Park. I liked the shape of this rescue boat and amount of blues in the scene. The blue-purple-grey sky, the prussian blue of the sound and the Connecticut coast, the purple-blue shadow and the shot of sky-to-turquoise blue inside the rowboat. I certain I didn't capture it accurately, but those colors are embedded in my memory.

Though many of these paintings won't be for sale right away, I'd like to direct you to my Etsy page where I'm having a little sale. Please consider purchasing a painting because, a. Christmas is coming, and these little 6x6s really make nice gifts, and/or b. the mermaid needs to buy some picture frames for the big solo show and selling a couple of these little guys would be a BIG help!

I'd also like to suggest that you sign up on the right side of this page for emails (not every day), and the follow button to get notifications when this blog is updated (for this month nearly every day, most times, not so much).

Day 30 - 30/30 Challenge - Painting 25 - Teddy Roosevelt Park

Summer's Over
10.25" x 8.5", watercolor, $85
Soon to be in my Etsy shop. If you are interested, please contact me below.

Puffy clouds, blue. blue skies, warm sunny day in late September. some of my favorite things.  I confess, I did see another local artist paint this scene at Teddy Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay, a week or so ago...I just loved it, so I went and painted my own rendition. (Thanks Noel Darvie!)

When I wasn't painting, I watched people put their boats in the water for one final fling around the bay, or read a book. (Chocolat, by Joanne Harris - Yes, the same story that was made into a movie with Johnny Depp & Juliette Binoche. She's an excellent writer.)

I afraid this may be the last of summer for real this time.

Day 22 - 30/30 Challenge - Wide Open Pastels

Wide Open
pastel, 6" x 6", $35

And...back to Monhegan! Well, in this case, on the way to Monhegan. This is a quick pastel I did last night. (For Day 22 - as opposed to being AHEAD for once. Yes, today is Day 23. Working on Day 23 later!)
I was working with some ideas I got from the Doug Dawson workshop and playing with the dozens of new pastels I bought at Blick. Unisons. On Sale. Mmmmm. Nice.
I can confirm that they are delicious and superior to the Blicks and the Rembrandts I have been  working with.

Day 6 of 30/30 Challenge - I'm Late!!

Blue on Blue, 6" x 6", watercolor, $35
SOLD!

Getting back in the real world, means I got a bit behind in the challenge! I need a day (or two) to catch up! But I am determined, so I picked something simple - or so I thought.

This little dingy is in New Harbor, Maine. There were some interesting boats there and the water was very calm. In my mind, I thought the water was so much darker - then I realized that it wasn't. I tried to pull out the color and lighten it up, but it wasn't working. My solution was to use white and pale blue pastel and wet them a bit to smooth them out. I think it ads a nice texture and depth to the painting.

OK, now to catch up with days 7 & 8 ! EEEK!
